Is Matched Betting Worth Doing In 2020?

Ask Jenni, Making Money, Matched Betting

If you’d like to make money from home in 2020 from the comfort of your sofa, matched betting can be a smart way of doing just that.

Matched betting has long been a profitable way to make money online, but many people assume it’s too good to be true. After all, if matched betting really is so good, why doesn’t everyone do it?

When people do believe the hype, they often assume it’s just a matter of time before matched betting is banned by bookmakers. So what’s the truth? Is matched betting worth it in 2020? Has that ship sailed? Can you still make money from matched betting or is it not worth doing anymore?

Is matched betting still worth it in 2020?

It’s true that matched betting isn’t quite as profitable as it once was, but there’s still decent money to be made. If you ask me, matched betting is definitely still worth it in 2020.

There once was a time when people were making £2,000 to £3,000 a month from it. I’m seeing fewer people reporting such figures and it seems like £800-£1,500 is much more common now. However, these certainly aren’t figures to turn your nose up at - especially considering matched betting income is tax-free so all that money is yours to keep.

Matched betting will be more profitable for those with a bit of money to start with. If you only have £20 in your bank account right now, it’ll take you a lot longer than someone who can set £250 of their income aside for matched betting. This is because you’ll need to put your own money into your betting accounts to begin with. Once you’ve had a few wins and have been able to withdraw this money, you can start betting your matched betting profits instead of cash you’ve earned in your day job, for example.

Eager to get started with matched betting? Create your free Profit Accumulator account and you could make up to £45 from your first two free bets. If you enjoy the process and you’re happy with your winnings, upgrade to a paid account to continue making money.

Why are some people making less money matched betting than they used to?

Sign up offers aren’t as common as they used to be

The main reason matched betting profits aren’t necessarily as good as they used to be is that high value sign up offers and large free bets are less readily available.

A few years ago, £50 free bets and £100 sign-up offers were very common. But now, free bets and sign-up offers are usually in the region of £10-£30.

Not only are these offers worth less than they used to be, there aren’t as many available either.

However, I don’t think these betting companies can go much lower when it comes to offering free bets to entice new customers. After all, I can’t see a £1 free bet attracting many new customers.

Your account may get ‘gubbed’ if companies suspect you’re matched betting

While many gambling companies turn the other way and invest little time in identifying matched betters, others are cracking down on accounts they suspect have only been created to make the most of free bets.

If a gambling company has reason to suspect you’re a matched bettor (if you’re only placing bets to either qualify for a free bet or place a free bet) they may ‘gub’ you. If you get ‘gubbed’ this means your account is blocked and you can no longer place bets with this particular company.

Thankfully, there are ways to prevent your account getting gubbed. One of the most popular is to place the occasional mug bet. A mug bet is a bet you place at a bookmaker that’s sole purpose is to make you look like an ordinary gambler. This means the bet is neither a free bet or a bet that’ll earn you a free bet.

How long will matched betting last?

If you’re wondering how long will matched bettors be able to make a ‘good level’ of income via the bookies, I’m afraid it’s difficult to say.

Many matched betting experts believe that the only way matched betting will ever end is if free bets and other promotions were made illegal or if all bookmakers stopped offering them.

It’s extremely unlikely that bookies will stop free bets themselves because free bets often lure new customers in. However, I’m not ruling out the idea that free bets might one day become illegal.

How easy is matched betting?

I found matched betting much easier than I thought I would. I say this as someone who’s never really been interested in betting before and never really understood how it worked. Before I started matched betting in 2017, I’d only ever betted once. That was back in 2010 (I think) when I placed an accumulator just because my housemates were doing the same and I wanted to be oNe oF tHe lAdS. Cringe.

When I first started matched betting, I kept track of everything I did and shared it in the post 7 Days Of Matched Betting: One Big Scam Or A Clever Side Hustle?

How do I start matched betting?

Personally, I’d recommend creating a Profit Accumulator account. I wouldn’t have made any money matched betting if it wasn’t for Profit Accumulator because I wouldn’t have had the first idea what to do. PA has a selection of really helpful tutorial videos that show you step-by-step exactly how to follow the matched betting process and make the most of this clever side hustle. Here’s the CEO of Profit Accumulator quickly explaining how it works.

Instagram post 2278464580048202578_43786404 SHOULD YOU ASK FOR A MORTGAGE HOLIDAY? This post is likely to be most helpful for homeowners, but some tenants may find it interesting too
Over the last few weeks 'mortgage holidays' have been talked about widely on TV and social media, but they've also been misrepresented. I've seen a lot of people arguing that if their landlord gets a mortgage holiday, they should automatically get a rent holiday
Although I'd love to see financially-comfortable landlords letting struggling tenants live rent-free for at least a couple of months, as I'm about to explain, the last thing you want is for their mortgage holiday to be passed onto you
Basically, if your lender agrees to give a homeowner a mortgage holiday, this means that mortgage repayments won't need to be made for a specified period of time. Basically, it's like your mortgage is put on pause
Unfortunately, the missed payments will need to be paid back eventually. This is likely to mean that once the mortgage holiday is over, the homeowner's mortgage repayments will increase
Let's imagine you usually pay £350 a month. Your lender may agree to a 3 month mortgage holiday, meaning you won't have to pay anything until July. But when your repayments resume, you may have to pay £370, £400, or even more than that each month
The exact amount will depend on a number of things such as the lender's terms, the amount of debt you have, and the period of time you'd like to spread the missing payments over
Not only will most homeowners be expected to pay back the missed payments eventually, they'll also have to pay more interest too
Basically, a mortgage holiday isn't as fun and rewarding as it may sound. Essentially, you're just taking on more debt
If you're really struggling to make ends meet at the moment, a mortgage holiday may give you some much-needed relief while your finances are overstretched. But please remember this isn't 'free' money & if your financial circumstances haven't drastically changed as a result of COVID-19, you'll probably be better rejigging your budget so that your mortgage repayments continue to be a top priority
Hope you're all doing as ok as can be♥️

Now is not the time to scold or berate people for not already having an emergency fund. Simmer down with the "I ToLd yOu sO" silliness because it's unhelpful & unproductive
Not everyone's financial circumstances have been negatively impacted as a result of coronavirus & there are people out there who would be wise to put money away for the future - especially when our social lives have taken a hit & we can't spend on restaurants, nights out & holidays etc
But most of those without emergency funds are without emergency funds for good reason. it's unlikely to be any easier for them to save now than it was before
We're all doing the best we can & our past selves could never have imagined how drastically our lives could change as a result of this crisis. We didn't see it coming & we're not to blame for not doing more to safeguard our finances
Instagram post 2277285289320014036_43786404 Guess who's got herself a flatmaaaaate! That's right... me!
Today I said goodbye (for now) to my bedroom and moved into the spare room to make way for a lodger
My shift at work tonight was a weird one because I just kept thinking: "there's someone in my flat and it ain't me!" When I got home, my flatmate's door was open so I went over to say hello and to see how she'd gotten on unpacking
Mate. Our girl is COMFORTABLE! 😂 I was only in work for 4 hours and in that time she's fully made the room her own. It looks so much cosier than before. The picture above is from last year FYI
Getting a lodger has been a nerve-wracking process, made even scarier by everything that's going on at the moment
But I'm very aware how lucky I am that this is even an option for me. Put it this way: I'm getting paid to have a flatmate rather than paying to be a flatmate, and I don't think you can get much more fortunate than that
Instagram post 2273370311017044694_43786404 My heart bleeds for them
Instagram post 2273347738203854773_43786404 I know this picture was probably created with toxic relationships in mind, but it's relevant right now too, don't you think?
Mother's Day flowers didn't sell very well at work on Sunday and I think it's because people were choosing not to visit their mums
We've got mums and dads fresh out the hospital, introducing their own parents to their newborn babies through living room windows
We've got couples in long distance relationships who are having to wait even longer than originally planned before they can see each other
And then we have all the travellers that are still stranded abroad due to repeatedly cancelled flights and the people back at home who miss them 💔
Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can teach my mum to download and use Houseparty when we're not in the same room as one another 📸picture reposted from @secondsapart
