After almost 8 months of being frugal and saving up as much money as I possibly can towards my first home, I’ve decided that it’s time to treat myself to something big… something special… something I’ll remember forever… a holiday!
Jake and I have been discussing going on holiday for a few months now and we’ve finally booked some time off work in June.
Over the last few weeks we’ve been trawling through various travel websites and voucher code sites on the lookout for some great holiday deals. Having never booked a holiday myself in my life, it’s only now that I’m discovering just how boring holiday hunting is. Jake’s happy to spend ages looking at various destinations from Spain to Croatia, while I’d rather just draw a hot country out of a hat and go from there.
As long as the hotel is close to a beach, and not too far from interesting places to explore, we should be pretty happy. Although a spa, massages, and a bed decorated with towels in the shape of swans would be great, we’re not too bothered about the hotel being really fancy, as long as it’s clean and the food is nice.
If it wasn’t for me having coeliac disease, booking a low cost holiday would probably be a hell of a lot easier.
We love the idea of visiting a different restaurant each evening, but we’re probably best finding a hotel with a huge selection of food and going all inclusive. That way, there should be food that I can eat and lots of beer for Jake to drink.
A few nights ago we were talking about how much money we’d like to spend and we’ve decided that while we do want to get a great deal on flights and a hotel, we don’t want to find ourselves being stingy or saying no to any luxuries or adventures while we’re away. We’re also hoping to go away for 10 days, rather than a sensible (and obviously thriftier) 7. Gotta treat yo self now and again.
Over the next few weeks I’m going to be blogging quite a bit about our holiday hunt, and so if you’d like to see how we get on, keep your eyes peeled.
If you’ve got any tips for us, I’d love to hear from you. Maybe you managed to bag a cheap holiday, or have a favourite travel website that you turn to time and time again. Let me know in the comments or send me a tweet to @CantSwingACat.
Also, if you have any recommendations for places to go, please send your favourite destinations my way:)
