Thinking of joining Slimming World but concerned about the cost? Here are 6 ways to save money on membership and get excellent value.
How much does Slimming World cost?
Slimming World membership costs an initial £10 to sign up, followed by a fee of £4.95 each week. But, as I’ll explain further down this post, there are plenty of ways to pay a little less than this while also getting your money’s worth.
1. Get half price membership
More often than not, Slimming World runs a ‘half price membership’ promotion, giving you £5 off your initial joining fee. This means that instead of paying £14.95 when you first sign up, you’ll pay just £9.95.
2. Make use of Slimming World gift vouchers
Is your birthday coming up? Why not ask your partner or a family member to buy you a Slimming World gift voucher? I know this might not sound like the most exciting gift of all, but think of it this way - if you’ve been wanting to lose weight for a while, this could be the most life-changing gift you ever receive in your life!

3. Bring a friend
If you’ve got a fair bit of weight to lose and you follow the Slimming World diet plan properly, you’re likely to drop a dress size within a matter of weeks. And when this happens, I can almost guarantee that your friends and colleagues will be scratching their heads and struggling to understand how you’ve done it. After all, since you can eat pretty much what you want on the Slimming World plan, you won’t necessarily have to cancel dinner plans or eat nothing but Ryvita at your desk.
Inspired by your success, your friends might decide they want to give Slimming World a try too. By bringing them along, you’ll get a week’s membership for free as a thank you to recommending someone else.
4. Buy a Countdown Course
Instead of paying each week, book yourself onto a Slimming World Countdown Course. Your membership will stay the same and you’ll continue to go to the weekly group as normal, but you’ll pay for a number of weeks up front and save money.
- A 6 week countdown course gives you 6 weeks’ membership for the price of 5
- A 12 week countdown course gives you 12 weeks’ membership for the price of 10
Not only can this approach help you save money, it can keep you on track and prevent you giving up at the sign of the first hurdle.
5. Make use of age-related discounts if possible
Depending on your age, you may be entitled to cheaper membership for yourself or a family member.
- 11 - 15-year-olds get free Slimming World membership as long as they’re accompanied by a fee-paying adult.
- 16 & 17-year-olds get membership for just £3.95 a week
- Those aged 60+ get membership for just £3.65 a week
6. Stay for the group meeting
In order to get really good value for money as a Slimming World member, I really recommend staying for the group meeting each week. Most people pay £5 a week to be weighed and then they sneak off home straight after. However, if you stick around, you can have a nice bonding session with all the other members, discuss your progress and learn new recipes and tips.
7. Cook from scratch
I highly recommend cooking as many meals as possible from scratch. This not only is a great way of preparing generous tummy-filling portions, it’s also a great way to save time and money. Cook a huge chilli when you get in from work, have one portion for tea, save some for lunch the next day, and freeze the rest for when you’re stuck for time and cash.
8. Surround yourself with fellow members
I really recommend following fellow Slimming World members on Instagram. They’ll inspire you, keep you going, share plenty of healthy recipes, and pick you up when you’re down. Find them by searching for hashtags such as #SlimmingWorld and #SlimmingWorldUK.
I know this won’t technically save you any money on membership, but it might help you reach your target faster - a great way to save money!
9. Get your friends and family involved
Slimming World is so much easier when you have the support of those around you. If you cook for family, why not make them healthy food too. If you’re in charge of the weekly food shop, make a few healthy switches to the contents of your fridge.
It’s easy to fall off the bandwagon if your partner orders takeaways every weekend, so make sure your significant other is on your side. Whenever my boyfriend fancies a treat, he’ll buy a particular bag of sweets or packet of biscuits that he knows I don’t like. That way he can pig out without tempting me to steal his goodies.
10. Believe in yourself
Whether you have the support of those around you or not, ultimately, you’re the only one in control of your new healthy lifestyle. If you’re constantly telling yourself you won’t achieve something, chances are you’re right.
You need to believe in yourself and go for it. If you ever find yourself giving into temptation and pigging out, don’t worry. Simply pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back in the swing of things!
11. Reach your target
Once you’ve reached your target, you’re entitled to free membership providing you stay close to your target weight. Even once you’ve reached your goal, it can be a good idea to keep going back to your Slimming World group so you keep on track.
By following the advice above, I’m confident that you can lose the weight you want to shift without spending more money than you need to.
