Bounts App: Earn Money While You Exercise

January 27, 2016 by

By signing up to free fitness rewards app, Bounts, and connecting to a fitness tracker or smartphone app, you can earn money while you exercise.

You’ll be given points for everything from a slow walk to the corner shop to a sprint around the park, and the more vigorous the exercise you do, the more points you’ll earn.

Over time these points will turn into vouchers that can be used at places such as Amazon, John Lewis, Pizza Hut and Cineworld.

How many points will I earn?

Bounts will reward you with 5 points each time you do the following:

    • Walk 7,000 steps in a day
    • Track 20 minutes of continuous exercise in a day. This could be anything from a brisk walk to a bike ride
    • Check in at a gym or sports centre (limited to once per day)

Earn 100 points just for signing up

How much money are the points worth?

1,389 points will get you a £5 voucher for Tesco, Argos, Halfords, Morrisons, New Look, Sports Direct, Tesco or WHSmith.

2,778 points will get you a £10 voucher for Amazon, John Lewis, M&S, Boots, Costa Coffee, Curry’s PC World, Debenhams, Pizza Hut, River Island, Sainsbury’s or Toys R Us.

With Bounts offering regular challenges that offer high rewards, you may find ways to earn points much quicker.

Is it worth having?

You do have to do quite a bit of exercise before you can earn money off your shop, so if you’re simply looking for fast ways to boost your income, this isn’t going to dramatically improve your bank balance.

However, if you’re already a big fan of fitness, you could see yourself earning rewards on a frequent basis.

In fact, even if you do very little exercise each day and don’t plan on changing your habits any time soon, this app still could be worth having. If you typically do around 7,000 steps a day you should accrue a £5 voucher within around 4 months. This of course isn’t a lot, but the only thing you will have had to do to earn this money is download and set up the app.

Think of the app a little bit like a supermarket loyalty card. It takes a long time to earn rewards, but you may as well have it on you at all times anyway.

How does it monitor my exercise?

Downloading the Bounts app alone isn’t necessarily enough.

You’ll also need to download a fitness tracking app to your smartphone and connect the two apps together.RunKeeper, MapMyFitness, Moves and Apple’s iPhone Health app are all supported.

Alternatively, you could use a regular fitness tracker such as Fitbit, Jawbone, Garmin, or Misfit.

What’s the catch? Why is Bounts paying me to exercise?

Founded in 2011, Bounts was created to help motivate people to exercise on a regular basis. Sports and fitness organisations pay to use Bounts to increase physical activity and participation in their communities. Basically, the idea is that with the help of Bounts, people are more likely to go to the gym and take part in fitness classes and sports clubs.
