Falling Off The Wagon: What’s Your Weakness?

April 20, 2015 by

I’ve fallen off the wagon. After losing 20lbs in weight and gaining £6000 in cash, over the past few weeks my weight loss and money saving efforts have really taken a hit.

The cause? I’ve started eating chocolate again. Three chocolate bars a day, to be exact. And don’t get me started on the amount of money I spent on yummy treats over Easter.

While I know that ultimately it’s my fault, a part of me does blame Tesco for its constant 3 chocolate bars for £1.20 offer, a deal that never seems to bloody end.

“We’ve removed chocolates from checkouts to help you make healthy choices” a sign claims at a Tesco close to my workplace. I’d believe them if it wasn’t for the abundance of 3 for 2 stickers on all the goodies mere feet away. Let’s be realistic, this is an offer bargain loving chocoholics like myself struggle to refuse.

Of course, it’s not Tesco’s fault that I lack self control. The only person who controls what goes in my mouth is me.

Today, in an attempt to put myself off Twirls, Dairy Milks and Cadbury’s Chocolate Buttons, I decided to do some sums.

If I continue to eat three chocolate bars a day, at £1.20 for all three, in the next 30 days I’ll spend £36.

If I do this for six months, that’s almost a whopping £220. For the next year, £440. Jesus. Christ. That money could cover a month’s mortgage repayment or fund a cheap holiday!

What’s your weakness? Do you find yourself wasting money on something time and time again? Let me know in the comments below!
