Second Hand Christmas #2: 6 More Perfect Charity Shop Gifts

December 9, 2014 by

There’s just two weeks to go until Christmas and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably still got a fair few gifts that you need to buy on somewhat of a limited budget.

The good news is that Christmas doesn’t have to be expensive. And through a series of blog posts I’m determined to show you that it’s perfectly possible to buy your friends and family lovely gifts by scouring your local charity shops.

Shortly after publishing my last blog post about second hand Christmas presents, I noticed that the Salvation Army have a fantastic campaign at the moment, The Christmas Charity Shop Challenge. All you have to do to take part in the challenge is spend a little bit of money in a charity shop this Christmas and tweet your findings along with the hashtag #MyCharityChallenge.

If you decide to take part, you’ll not only save money but you’ll also be donating to a worthy cause!

So anyway, here are just a few of the things I found in charity shops this week.

Got an art student friend? Or perhaps you know a butt-kicking feminist who loves delving through books that recognise fantastic women past and present. If either of the above apply, this could be the perfect gift for them.

I’ve just this second had a look on Amazon for this and it’s a whopping £18.98!! I couldn’t find a price tag on it in the charity shop, but I presume it will have been a fraction of the price it is to buy new. Think I might pop back there on my lunch tomorrow to snap it up myself if it’s still there 😉

If you know someone who loves to get lost in old comics, charity shops are where you need to be in the coming weeks. As you’d expect, few charity shops have as big a big collection as this one which is a city centre Oxfam.

I know the above jacket won’t be to everyone’ tastes, but I absolutely love a pretty and colourful pattern and this caught my eye instantly. I imagine it’d look fab with either smart trousers or jeans and some nice shoes. Know someone who could pull off something as bold as this?

This red and blue dress caught my eye as soon as I walked into the charity shop and I think it’d look great on a sixties loving sister/mum or friend!

This knee-length dress was absolutely gorgeous, and a steal at just over a tenner. If you could exercise the self-control to not keep it for yourself, it’d make a great gift for a friend.

I absolutely love this gorgeous vintage style coaster and I think it’d make a great stocking filler. Shame about the placement of the price tag!

Have you spotted any gift-worthy second hand treats recently? If so let me know in the comments below.

Oh and don’t forget to tweet your finds to The Salvation Army with #MyCharityChallenge
